Are You Selfish Enough?

There are too many people who aren’t selfish enough. They are always thinking of others before themselves, but they aren’t happy. They are helping others for the wrong reasons. They do it out of a false sense of duty, or they feel they are a victim and have no other option.
It’s good to help others, provided that it’s for the right reasons. But if you’re not happy you need to ask yourself if it’s the right thing to do. If you’re giving up your happiness and well being in the process are you doing anyone any favors?
If people were more honest and selfish with themselves early on they would get into fewer situations that they don’t like. Your time and life is as valuable as anyone else. But if you don’t value it, then no one will. Your first duty has to be to yourself. Then when you have additional time and resources you can share and help others.
Life is too short to help others for the wrong reasons. Don’t throw it away for someone who might not even appreciate it. It’s not a fair trade.
You can be an incredibly selfish person and still be nice and helpful to others. Being selfish means that you help others for the right reason. Because you want to.
